Pool Tips & FAQ's

We understand that owning a pool can bring up many questions, Here are answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about pool maintenance and equipment. From how to keep your pool clean to what type of filter you should use.

Types of Filters?

Cartridge filters are the most popular type of pool filter. They are easy to maintain and provide excellent filtration performance. Sand filters use a special grade of sand to trap dirt and debris, and require backwashing to remove the dirt. DE filters use diatomaceous earth to capture even the smallest particles for superior filtration, but require more maintenance than sand and cartridge filters. All three types of pool filters are essential for keeping your pool clean and safe for swimming.

What chemicals does my pool use?

Keep your pool clean and safe with the right pool chemicals! Our Included pool chemicals include Sodium Bicarbonate, Soda Ash, Muriatic Acid, and Chlorine to maintain the ideal pH, Alkalinity and sanitation balance in your pool water. We also carry additional specialty chemicals, such as enzyme treatments, phosphate removers, and algaecides for more specific pool care needs. With these pool chemicals, you can be sure to keep your pool clean and safe for the whole family to enjoy!

What is LSI?

The Langelier Saturation Index (LSI) is a great tool for measuring the balance of your pool's water chemistry. It helps pool owners ensure their water is properly balanced, which helps prevent damage from corrosion and scaling. We utilize the LSI to monitor the pH, alkalinity, calcium hardness, and temperature of the pool's water. This powerful index provides a comprehensive view of the pool's water chemistry, helping to ensure that the pool is safe and healthy for everyone to enjoy.

What is CYA?

Cyanuric acid (CYA), also known as chlorine stabilizer or pool conditioner, is a critical chemical that stabilizes the chlorine in your pool. Without cyanuric acid, your chlorine will quickly break down under the sun’s ultraviolet rays.

But having too little or too much CYA in your pool can inhibit your chlorine’s effectiveness and even damage your pool equipment. That’s why maintaining the right cyanuric acid levels is so important to help your chlorine actively kill bacteria, contaminants, and algae.

When the Level of CYA in your pool becomes to high it becomes necessary to drain the pool in order to allow the chlorine to work effectively. In the Southwest we recommend this to be performed every 3 years.

Acid Wash?

An acid wash service is the perfect way to restore the luster of your pool and remove stubborn stains. Highly trained technicians will safely apply acid to your pool, removing any surface staining and refreshing your pool service. This process will not only give your pool a renewed and vibrant look but also help to prevent the build-up of algae and other contaminants. An acid wash service is safe, reliable and will leave your pool looking brand-new again.

Pump Types

There are 2 varieties of pumps, including single speed and variable speed. Single speed pumps deliver consistent power, are easy to install and maintain, and are ideal for pools with simple water circulation needs. Variable speed pumps offer more control and energy efficiency, and are perfect for pools with more complex needs. Changing regulation in the state of Arizona now dictate that Single speed pumps can only be installed for ancillary pool features, such as, waterfalls, slides booster jets etc.

Types of Algae

Green Algae is the most common type of algae found in pools. It is generally easy to remove with proper maintenance and chemical treatment.

Yellow Algae is extremely virulent and requires more in-depth treatment and maintenance to prevent it from

returning.

Black Algae is the most difficult to remove and requires an acid wash to effectively eradicate it.

3 c's of Pool Maintenance

By following the 3 C's of Pool Maintenance - circulation, cleaning, and chemistry - you can keep your pool in top condition for years to come.

Ensuring your pool’s circulation is running smoothly is critical for keeping your pool clean, clear, and safe. This involves keeping the pump, filter, and skimmer running correctly.

Regularly cleaning your pool will prevent the build-up of debris, bacteria, and algae that can cloud the water and damage pool equipment.

Finally, maintaining the right chemistry balance is essential for a healthy swimming environment. This includes checking the pH, chlorine, and stabilizer levels to ensure everything is kept in balance.
